The Pre-K children charted the items they received each week, creating a concrete visual of the impact they have on their community while helping others. Learning through mitzvot, the students also honed their math skills in a meaningful context as they sorted and counted the toiletries. Moreover, this gave our students a chance to reinforce the home/school connection and the Jewish value of giving tzedakah.
The Gordon School pre-kindergarten participated in a special mitzvah project called “A Book for a Smile” to support Lotus House, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of homeless women, youth and children in the heart of Overtown, Miami. Every week, the children chose a book from their classroom to take home. The books were returned with a donation item (socks, toothbrush or toothpaste), which will be delivered to Lotus House.
